Draft Stockport Local Plan (SLP)

The Draft Stockport Local Plan – What It Means for Hazel Grove

Stockport Council has published its Draft Local Plan (SLP) – a major planning document that will shape how land across the borough is used for decades to come. It sets out where new housing, business developments and infrastructure could be built between now and 2041. For Hazel Grove residents, this is especially important. The plan proposes removing parts of our local Green Belt, including Sandown Fields, to make way for hundreds of new homes. Once Green Belt is lost, it’s gone forever. This is our chance to speak up and protect our local environment, infrastructure, and community.

SMBC Drop-In Sessions

Stockport Council are running a series of Drop-In sessions where you can find out more about the SLP in person.

Their team will be on hand to:

  • Answer your questions about the Local Plan
  • Provide printed copies of the plan for you to browse
  • Guide you through the online consultation tool using electronic devices
  • Offer digital support to help you submit your comments

This is a great opportunity to broaden your understanding of the plan and the consultation process.

Why You Should Object

The draft plan is open for public consultation right now. Every individual objection counts — and will form part of the official record that councillors and inspectors must review before the plan is finalised. HGGAG strongly believes the proposed development on Sandown Fields and other Green Belt sites is unnecessary, unsustainable, and harmful. There are viable brownfield alternatives, yet the Council continues to target protected land. Your objection can make a real difference. If enough residents respond, we can show just how strongly Hazel Grove stands against this proposal.
